If you have received an invoice from Cockerell Dermatopathology, your doctor requested our services. Treating doctors will sometimes remove a lesion(s) from a patient during an office visit and send it to a dermatopathologist, a physician who examines tissue specimens under a microscope. This personal service and collaboration between your clinician and our dermatopathologists help ensure the most precise, conclusive diagnosis. The dermatopathologist then bills your insurance for this service and often times sends the patient a bill in accordance with your health insurance benefits.  Please note that our service fees are in addition to those charged by your doctor who performed the specimen removal.

There are a few reasons why you might receive an invoice from Cockerell Dermatopathology. You may owe a co-pay, deductible, or other payment, according to your health insurance benefits.  We may have incomplete or incorrect insurance information, which prevented us from filing a claim, or we may have received a denial response from your insurance company. Cockerell Dermatopathology will submit charges for our services to your primary and secondary insurers using the billing information provided by your doctor’s office. Your doctor does not receive detailed billing information about our dermatopathology services; please direct inquiries concerning our fees to Cockerell Dermatopathology’s billing department.

If you have additional questions about your invoice, please call 888-551-9566 or Contact Us. Our representatives are available to assist you with your questions from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CDT. When calling, please have your insurance information and a copy of your invoice from Cockerell Dermatopathology on hand.

By federal law, Cockerell Dermatopathology cannot answer any questions about diagnostic results. Please consult with your clinician to explain your diagnosis.
